This week the Payne family has had two pieces of news at the opposite end of the spectrum: news of a family engagement (the happy bit) and news that a four-year old member of the family has been diagnosed with Leukemia (the not so happy bit).
This is typical of the wider church family in which we find ourselves - some rejoicing and some lamenting. The challenge for those involved in church music is to reflect that in our contributions to worship. Even those who know God and receive his comfort in difficult times may not always feel like praising and those who are rejoicing may need to find something to sustain that joy and nourish them too.
