New Dean of Ely Cathedral announced

Canon Bonney and myself today
Downing Street announced this morning that the new Dean of Ely Cathedral is to be Canon Mark Bonney, currently a Canon at Salisbury Cathedral.

You can "meet" the Dean designate by video and through written comments on the Diocesan website here
. More information also available here.  Canon Bonney is, himself, a Cambridge graduate in Music and he and his wife are keen singers. One of their two daughters was a chorister at Salisbury and he is also a former Precentor at St Albans, so music is a key part of his own life and that of his family.

Bishop Stephen presented him officially to the Cathedral community this morning. In his opening comments, Canon Bonney spoke of his hope and desire to reach out to the Diocese, both when members of the Diocese come to the Cathedral and, equally, on a personal level by visiting parishes in the Diocese and getting to know people. I was hugely encouraged by all he had to say, some of which he reiterates in the short video he has already made (see above).

He will be installed as Dean in late September so, hopefully, before too long he will become a familiar site at Diocesan gatherings and out in the parish churches. Please remember Canon Bonney and his family in your prayers as they prepare to move to Ely Cathedral and, also, for those of us based there as we prepare to welcome them.
